Chemical Regulatory Consulting
We determine which regulations apply to your products, clarify your obligations, and set the compliance path for your target markets.
Chemical regulatory consulting is the work of determining which rules apply to a product, what they require of the company placing it on the market, and what has to be done to satisfy them. It sits before documentation. The output is clarity about your obligations and a defensible plan for meeting them.
What it is
Chemical regulatory consulting is the work of determining which rules apply to a product, what they require of the company placing it on the market, and what has to be done to satisfy them. It sits before documentation. The output is clarity about your obligations and a defensible plan for meeting them.
Who needs it
Manufacturers, importers, distributors and brand owners who place chemical products on the market and do not have an in-house regulatory function. It is most useful when a company is uncertain what applies to it, when it is entering a market it has not sold into before, or when it has inherited documentation it cannot verify.
The problem it solves
Chemical regulation is jurisdictional and role dependent. The same product can carry different obligations depending on the market, the tonnage, and whether you are the manufacturer, the importer or the distributor. Companies rarely fail because a rule is impossible to meet. They fail because nobody established which rules applied to them in the first place.
What we assess
The composition and intended use of the product. The markets you sell into or intend to enter. Your role in the supply chain in each of those markets. The regulatory frameworks that follow from that, which commonly include REACH and CLP in the European Union, OSHA Hazard Communication and TSCA in the United States, WHMIS in Canada, and the GHS based frameworks used in other markets. The documentation you already hold and whether it stands up.
What you provide
A composition breakdown or formulation, the intended use and target markets, any existing safety data sheets or labels, and a description of your role in the supply chain. Where information is incomplete we will tell you what is missing and why it matters.
What you receive
A written statement of the regulatory frameworks that apply to your product in each market in scope, your obligations under each, the gaps between your current position and those obligations, and a prioritised plan for closing them. Where documentation is required, we can prepare it.
What happens next
Most engagements move from assessment into implementation, which usually means classification, safety data sheets and labelling for the markets in scope. You are not obliged to continue with us. The assessment stands on its own and is written so that another party could act on it.
Frequently asked questions
What does a chemical regulatory consultant do?
A chemical regulatory consultant establishes which regulations apply to a product and a company, interprets what those regulations require, identifies where the company falls short, and prepares or oversees the documentation needed to comply. The role covers strategy and interpretation, not only document preparation.
When should a company bring in a regulatory consultant?
Most commonly before entering a new market, before launching a new product, when a customer or authority questions existing documentation, or when a company has grown past the point where compliance can be handled informally.
Do I need consulting if I only need a safety data sheet?
Not necessarily. If you already know which market the document is for and what it must comply with, you can submit the request directly. Consulting is for the situations where that is not yet settled.
Which regulations do you work with?
Our work centres on REACH and CLP in the European Union, OSHA Hazard Communication and TSCA in the United States, WHMIS in Canada, and the GHS based frameworks used in the United Kingdom, the GCC and Australia.
